Richard and Rhoda Goldman Fund Announces $8,908,000 in New Grants


San Francisco (July 1, 2008) — The Richard and Rhoda Goldman Fund has authorized new grants for a total of $8,908,000.  Highlights include initiatives addressing waterway health in California and support for the next generation of philanthropists.

June grants in the regular program areas of Environment, Jewish Affairs, Population, San Francisco Bay Area, and Special Projects include:

Waterkeeper Initiative: Protecting Northern California Waterways
Many of California’s rivers, bays and beaches are threatened by industrial pollutants, tainted stormwater runoff, sewage discharge and irresponsible development. To address these issues, the Goldman Fund supported six of California’s Waterkeeper organizations with $940,000 in grants to implement and enforce clean water and coastal protection laws.

Through this $450,000 initiative, the Goldman Fund seeks to engage and train the next generation of civic and philanthropic leaders. All four grant recipients are leading nonprofit membership groups working to provide young adults with education, technical assistance and grantmaking opportunities to become more involved in philanthropy. All grants are payable in 2008.
